The number one service call is obviously filtration issues and that is covered everywhere on this website! The next is what is called a flame sensor. If your furnace is acting like it wants to fire then quits it's probably the flame sensor. You can watch the video at the bottom of our main front page site HERE. It is called "Flame Sensor Video". Or, you could just take some steel wool and clean the rod in the middle of the yellow circle in the picture below. Even if it looks clean it is not! Be sure not to touch the ignitor in the picture to your left! That's it, it should be fixed.
If your furnace is broke and you tried the filter stuff and the flame sensor stuff and got nowhere the next step is the ignitor. Now normally you can see the problem with the ignitor. You'll see a little white spot and possibly a little hole somwhere on the black crystal looking part. No need to go any further...it's bad! Order one through us or the internet, it's just one screw. IMPORTANT-DO NOT touch the black crytal looking part, it is very sensitive to the oils present on human skin and will ruin it!
The condensing unit is the outdoor part of the air conditioner. The fan on top is the condenser fan motor. You can tell it is out because the compressor comes on but it does not. But we are getting ahead of ourselves. First, make sure the coils (radiator looking wall around the whole thing) is clean. If it is clogged the unit will freeze up, clean it and you'll be good to go. Now back to the fan motor. Open the panel that covers the components (it's easy to find) you will see a silver canister called a capacitor (very, very easy to replace and cheap too!) Inspect it for black spots or a bump on the top that doesn't look like it should be there. Replace it (order online or get it from us.) That could be the problem with the fan motor so change it first. If that didn't work replace the fan motor. Sometimes you can tell the motor is bad by just touching it and if it is very hot, it' gone!
